KENT, WA - February 15, 2020 - The 32’s played the Breakaway Crew in the first game of Hockey Challenge 2020 on February 15, 2020. The 32's are a team from the NHL Seattle front office named the “Seattle 32’s”. The 32’s roster consists of current employees of the 32nd NHL franchise. The Breakaway Crew is comprised of goalies, skaters and volunteers that took part in the fifth annual RMHC Breakaway Challenges. Hockey Challenge 2020 is the first year either group has fielded a team for the Hockey Challenge.

The Breakaway Challenge pits youth and adult skaters against goalies of various skill levels, from players who had never put on goalie gear before, to seasoned net minders who played for years. There was no limit to the number of breakaways a skater could take against any of the goalies. At this year's Breakaway Challenge, a Skills competition was added that youth and adult skaters could participate in. The skaters and goalies who raised the most money were eligible for a rematch during first intermission of the T-Birds game on February 15, 2020.

Each year, the Breakaway Challenge introduces a new rookie goalie. Breakaway Challenge 2019-2020 featured the debut of two Hockey Challenge captains in net - John Barr, creator and manager of the grassroots organization NHL to Seattle and Mike Fenelon, of the Azure Hockey Challenge team. Both faced over 90 breakaways during their debut appearance, a new record for "novice" Breakaway Challenge goalies.

Since its inception, the Breakaway Challenge has raised over $60,000 for RMHC, which provides a "home-away-from-home" for critically ill children and their families.
