Bosk Presents Breakaway Challenge 2022

WOODINVILLE, WA - March 6, 2022 - Skaters of all ages faced off against a mix of experienced and rookie goalies at the beautiful Bosk Brew Works facilities. Our goalie crew included many new faces this event, including Derek Bohn (local goalie coach and long-time rec leaguer), Wayne Fjeld (Kraken EBUG) and Bryan Curtis (Bosk Brew Works). Our rookie goalies this year included David Min and Ashley Keith (coach and all always full of sunshine). Returning again this year, we also had Mike Morgan (ready for whatever nonsense we cooked up).

We even had a special surprise visit from some Everett Silvertips.

Winter Breakaways 2021

With everything going on in the world, we have decided to postpone our in-person Breakaway Challenge for 2021. We will be keeping an eye on when the NHL allows full capacity crowds again, as that will be a good cue it’s safe for us too. We’re keeping our fingers crossed it happens soon!

Until then, we’ll be focusing our efforts as part of the Hockey Challenge Virtual Edition. For more information, go to rmhchockeychallenge.org. Stay tuned for our highlights of our goalie shenanigans.

Breakaway Challenge Winter 2020

KENT, WA - January 11, 2020 - Skaters faced off against experienced goalies Mike Morgan and Sarah Calabria, as well as Hockey Challenge captains and this year’s rookie goalies John Barr (NHL to Seattle) and Mike Fenelon (Azure). As with previous Breakaway Challenges, we also included a Skills competition, including both a goalie race as well as a referee race.

Mike Fenelon and John Barr competed in a captain’s challenge to see who would face the most shots, with Fenelon ultimately capturing the title by a margin of 102 shots to Barr’s 97. Both broke the previous record which was 80 shots.

Summer Breakaways Edition 2019

After years of focusing on our goalie vs. skater breakaway competition, we added a few new elements this year - skills stations, announcers, music and most importantly - youth participation.

Participants, adult and youth, were able to face off against our goalies with breakaways or stationary shots, try accuracy at our targets off-ice, test out individual skating and puck handling skills, or for those who want a chance of pace, we will also had non-hockey related activities off-ice.
